Meet the Artist

At various points in my life people have said to
me "you should be this" or "you should have
been that".  I have come to the conclusion that
the only thing I can be with any great success
is myself.  I have also discovered that 'myself'
includes all of those things . . . and more.

Of many things, I am also a poet.   I wrote this
one for a friend who had a patchwork quilt
program for kids and I think it best expresses
the idea that we are all composed of many
elements:

Multi-faceted, light and dark,
Each piece, separate and a part,
No more, no less, not good or bad,
Just records of the life I've had.

Each thread in the fabric of my life,
Woven together to make me whole,
Cannot be severed or unwound,
Lest part of the story be untold.

Strength unfolds in rough textures,
Softness comes from lighter hues,
I see myself in all of them,
And in any one I choose.

So I stand as a mosaic,
A patchwork quilt of me,
Adding pieces to the puzzle,
To create all I can be
